Hi,

I own a 1989 mercedes 190E 2.6. The only key that I have opens pass side door and not any other. One night I locked the car from pass side and next morning, factory alarm started to come on (Honking horn). Car would not start. I tried to unlock from pass side and alarm does not turn off. At the same time I noticed that central locking is not working either.

The battery also seems a bit drained. Can I disable the clarm in any way? Do you guys think a weak bbattery is the culprit? How does the vaccum pump work (the one I think is the one incharge here for arming the alarm). Any help be great.

thanks,

Moby

To stop the Alarm you need to unlock te drivers side door with the key. I know you said you don't have it but that's the only way I know of doing it. I have done an 87 190E and the alarm was on the passenger side firewall, just take off the floor carpet, all of it, and then remove the plastic cover on the floor that goes up to the firewall and you'll see the brain. I guess you'll have to disconnect your battery to work on the car so the alarm doesn't kepp going off. Not sure about the Ignition Kill I don't think the factory alarm has it at least the one I did didn't have it, could be your battery is low.

I did open the pass side firewall and there are bunch of boxes. As I remember, one said Becker audio, other had a warning sticker about airbags or SRS. did not see any other "brain" looking thing. This key that I have goes halfway into the driverside door and then seems to have an obstacke. goes completely into trunk but does not rotate. Also does not have the red dot either.

please read my earlier post about what the key is doing and advice if you guys think that the lock is bad, or should I get the red-dot key any ways? also - if according to bullettooth's response, the car is not equipped with starter kill - What happens when alarm is honking and someone tries to start the car?.

Can the dying battery be responsible of not operating the vaccum pump? and that is leading to drivers side lock not being able to be opened?
