Whats up guys,

I have a Soundstream 700sx amplifier. The other day I broke the head off the screw, to get it out I took the board out and used my dremel to cut a slit in the screw.

When I put it back together it smoked and what not and didnt work.

I brought it to a repair place, they fixed it and when I got it back it did the same exact thing.I returned it again. It never turned on and then it started smoking. Then with the key off it some wacky sounds started coming out of my subs.

My questions are:

1.) What do you think could be wrong with the amp?

2.) Do you think I might have blown my subs?

Also the guy said he replaced a 10ohm resistor and a output transistor.

Chances are if the guy you took it to couldn't fix it, you might want take it back to whoever you bought it from or send it to soundstream and have them repair it. What is the impedance of the amplifier, and how are you wiring the subs?

These are the specs of the amp off of ampguts.

125 watts x 2 at 4 ohms 12V

250 watts x 2 at 2 ohms 12V

350 watts x 2 at 1 ohm 12V

350 watts x 2 at 1/2 ohm

250 watts x 1 at 8 ohms 12V

500 watts x 1 at 4 ohms 12V

700 watts x 1 at 2 ohms 12V

700 watts x 1 at 1 ohms 12V

Im running two J/L W0's 4ohm SVC there in parralell. So I beleive that gives me a 2 ohm load.

you've got them wired correctly. So it sounds like the problem lies with your amplifier, did you buy it from a dealer? If so they should be able to send it off for repair or provide you the information to send it off yourself. If not you should be able to get the info off of soundstream's website.

Well heres the deal. The terminal screws on this amplifier are set inside sleeves I ended up breaking the head of the screw so i took out the board and ground a slot into the screw, I guess that screwed something up. I got it fixed already but when i got it back the same thing happned. Do you think I may have blown my subs? I put a dmm to them and they read around 4.2 ohms. It goes back and forth around 4.2.

If you subs are supposed to be single vioce coil 4 ohm subs and they are reading around 4.2 then theoretically they should not be blown. Are you planning to keep the soundstream and have it fixed or buy a new one?

Im planning on keeping it, it worked fine before I f"d it up. Well what I thought with the dmm was that it was giving me the resistance of the coil, not the impedence. If I can remember from high school impedance is the counter emf. So you can only get your correct reading when there is power through the circuit. But whatever. lol
