do i have to use mdf for a false floor and amp rack? can i just use like a 1/8 piece of wood and glass it? cuz 3/4 mdf is overkill for a false floor... does anyone know if they make mdf in like 1/2 i dont think ive ever seen anything else but 3/4

also are there certain woods that dont absorb resin well?

you could use either 1/2 or 1/4 inch MDF for a false floor..if it is going to be supporting stuff then i would say go with the 1/2" it is widely available at hardware stores..

fiberglassing over 1/8" wood sounds expensive, compared to a 1/2 piece of mdf...

ther are lots of woods that wont absorb resin well what do you mean by this this? what are you using the wood for? pretty much anything you do in your car should be built with MDF...it is the deadest, most versatile and most porous of the cheaply available "woods" even though it is pretty much just compressed paper particles...

and though 3/4 seems like over kill...you have to remember that the stuff dosent screw together all that well and the extra thickness will help..

thanks.. i need the wood for the base then im gonna FG the rack that is holding my omnifi mp3 hard drive which will be floating..

i used 3/4 inch mdf when i did a false floor on my civic and on customers cars depending on what your adding to it like an insert can be recessed to make the wood appear to be thinner....its always better to use as much wood as possible because fiberglass is very time consuming and expensive.

go to home depot they have 3 different sizes of mdf and it's the cheapest you'll ever find. the little run down lumber store sells it for $50 for 3/4 its $22 at the depot.

$50 they are killing you guys. the area i'm in I can get 3/4 MDFfor $18. $20 at the most
