overheating amp

You would be wiser to run the speakers in a parallel/series configuration to obtain a single 4 ohm load to your mono amp. The amp won't have to work as hard and won't heat up as much.sparky

First  you said it was a mono amp, and then you used the term "bridged" in telling about the rated specs.  One or the other but not both.  What model is it?Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

More info. The model# of the amp and what size power / ground wire is attached to it. Is the gain set correctly?Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

Ya it could just be the ventilation, i know JL amps get loveing hot. What kind of amp ya got?

set the gain right then u need to hook up both voice coils cause useing only could damage the subs so hook up both in parallel/series configuration like sparkie said so the amp "see's" a 4 ohms load and make sure u have the right gauge power and ground wire also then if it stills gets to hot u can go up to ur local radioshack dealer and buy a 12v cpu fan part # is 273-243 price about $15 and use the remote terminal as ur power and the ground as ur negative so the fan only comes on when the amp is on it only draws .16 amps so it wont affect anything and mount next to the amp that fan can greatly help with cooling ive done that so many times and the amps could fry an egg on them but after the fan they would be like warm hope this helps u93 diamante

Using only 1 voice coil on dvc will not damage the sub. It may bring the resistance down to the wrong load for the amplifer. I have hooked up many dvc's only using one voice depending on the amplifier stabilty, (1ohm, 2ohm, 4ohm.....)and rms power as to not over power the sub. I would go with sparkies recomendation. (paralell wiring) and definetly read up on setting the gains. There are some good posts on this site about how to set the gains.  What size pwr cable/grd cable? What your location, if your down south ventilation might be an issue, in my neck of the woods it is rarely a problem on the back of a seat though....my.02..
