Magnetic Shielding?

I have a quick question. How are speaker units(enclosures) magneticly shielded. I am building my home theater room, and all of the enclosures are custom. The sub enclosure and the center channel will be very close to the monitor and I wished to shield the monitor from the magnetism of the drivers. I assume that a non ferrous metal is lining the units that are premade, but really unsure. Thanx Masta N out

Almost all center channel speakers and most front bookshelf speakers are shielded. Are you using a tube TV in your theater? If not, shielding will not be an issue. A magnetitic field will not affect LCD or DLP projection.Wire Works Of Las Vegas

There are a couple ways to shield a driver. One way is a "bucking magnet", which is simply another magnet clost to the same size as the primary one, simply stuck to the back of the speaker. (Some experimentation may be necessary to find the actual size necessary for effective shielding - this translates to expense.) This simply "shorts" the stray magnetic field from the two magnets together. The other option - easier and likely cheaper - involves placing a heavy walled cup of FERROUS metal over the entire magnet structure. The drawback to this, is if the driver is a vented driver - a woofer with a hole in the middle of the magnetic pole - you will lose some cooling capacity, and POSSIBLY change the driver's physical parameters, necessitating an enclosure redesign.It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice.
