FG mold makin? speaker box

Is it possible to make a mold for a fairly small 12 inch custom fiberglass speaker box so that it will be easy to produce a good copy of the original. Is really exspensive and are there any draw backs to this?

you're trying to make a copy of one that already exsists?

Making negative molds of anything is not easy because you have to make sure that all the proper curves and angles are accounted for and therefore can take a long time to properly make. If your expecting to start producing and selling a product, make sure that you check to see if the item is copy righted.Jeff

yes, I want to make another one maybe even 2 or 3 that are the same.

Thats good advice. but I just want to make 2-3 more for some friends but I want to find a way thats cheaper and faster+ its hard to get the same exact thing 2-3 times over.

I doubt it's going to be worth the effort to make the mold of it if you're just planning on making a couple. Is there a reason they all need to be the same? is this a custom fitted box or is it just a unique design?

Well this is what I was thinking. I want to make the mold just for the back of the exsisting speaker box so that it fits in the trunk. I just dont want to use my car anymore for taking the molds off of. I dont like to use fiberglass near my 06 acura. I need something else in which to get the shape of my trunk.I want to know is there any way of doing this? Thanks

it's pretty much the same process as molding off of the panel would be. You'll be laying fiberglass on the back of the part you're trying to copy and it will "read" whatever it's layed on. In order to be able to remove the part from the mold you're making you'll need to put a barrier between the two. if it's carpet or vinyl i'd tape it off and use foil but if it's fiberglass or plastic or something it works to just put a bunch of car wax on there. You'll need to put a few layers of fiberglass on there so it's strong enough to hold up, but that should give you a mold to work out of.

this may be a dumb question but is it possible to get a reverse mold off the front of an already fabricated box?   for my setup i have the right side box for my trunk built and was wondering if you can mold it to get the left side.
