I have two Alpine type- R 1022d dual 2ohm voice coil subs.  Is there any way to wire them together to make a 4ohm load. The amp I am using is an Alpine MRD-M1005 rated at 700watts at 4ohms or 1000watts at 2ohms.

This would be better. Final 2 ohm load. 4 ohm load on that amp for 2 type r's wouldn't push them.

Those subs are rated 500 watts RMS each.  You've got a nice match at 2 ohms.  You'll note that at 12.6 volts the output into 2 ohms is 700 watts and you'll probably not see the 1000 watts at 14.4 volts.  No overpowering concern here.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
