Alright so i got a boss blx3500M sub amp. I have read all the forums about these amps and have heard nothing but bad things about them. This one says 3500 peak, 2000 RMS at 1 ohm. I am going to wire it down to half an ohm also. I am going to run 2 2006 kicker 12" L5's in a sealed box. Will this amp be alright to power these? the subs take 600 RMS so even though boss overrates their stuff, it should still power it. This will be alright though right?

why do you want to blow your amp??? maybe im just confused, but if it says 1 ohm stable, and you have read nothing but bad things about them...why woud you wire it to half ohm.
Hope you have more money to buy a bigger amp the first few days you attempt to run it like this

I can see NOTHING but bad choices here: Boss amp. Wired to 1/2 ohm (on purpose). L5's. (wait... never mind the L5 thing, you obviously dont care about SQ... the Boss amp is evidence of that)
This will do nothing but cost you... soon!
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Ok while this probably was a bit stupid, that's a harsh response guys. Ok, I am just jealous you guys beat me to it. But well... Doing theoretical math... 2000 RMS doubled(1/2 the impedance) would be 4000 RMS correct? Well ok even a severely overrated amp isn't gonna be like 3000 off on rms... The subs can only handle 1200 total... Not a good idea. Ontop of already running the amp at a lower impedance than it is stable at... I mean, be smart about it man.

ok csprings had his info wrong the amp he is talking about is the boss blx3500m this is stable down to .5 ohms and irts fancooled and it is 2000 watts RMS at .5 ohms. Now my question that maybe someone can answer is how many LEGIT watts will the amp put down about at .5 ohms since boss overrates their stuff???? in RMS, and can u please use facts to support your numbers. thanks in advance

again, the amp will not handle a 1/2 ohm load.   if you look at it on the site you posted, or at boss audio.com   it does not list a 1/2 ohm power   DO NOT RUN IT THERE
it has 3 40 amp fuses
here is the math
120amps of current draw before blowing the fuses
13.8 volts constant. You voltage does not move at all, this will never happen but will use it for the math
amp efficency at best 65%   most amps like Kicker and crossfire and other respectable high end amps do not get better then 75% efficency
so here is the math
120 x 13.8 x .65 = 1076.4 watts at 1 ohm with perfect voltage
so yes, the 3500 watt amp is rated over by 300%+
The amps I use personally are externally fused as reccomended by the manufacturer at 300 amps each
we run our new setup on 17.7 volts for show use only
the amps have an efficeny rating of of 65% at 1/4 ohm
our setup comes out like this
600amps x 17.7 volts x 65% = 9779.25
Our voltage does not more due to a kinetik bank of 4 cells, and 2 very very large alternators!

yes it does read the description it sayds that the amp is stable down to a half an ohm load. i quote "Exxtreme power is what you get from these high current, low impedance amps. You can even load them down to half an ohm for maximum power output! These high current Blade Exxtreme series amps are equipped with internal fans to dissipate heat....." so i figured i could wire them down to half an ohm. So when u use that formula, that calcualte Peak Power or RMS power?

If the same site or spec sheet told you that when you use this amp you can see in the dark, cure cancer, breathe underwater and save the whales, would you still believe it then?
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
