If the bottom line is that my system is too cheap, then I will accept that.  I didn’t have a huge budget and I went with cheap Legacy equipment.  Here’s the equipment:

Head Unit: LDVD85 - http://www.legacycaraudio.com/itempage.asp?model=LDVD85

Amp 1: LA670 - http://www.legacycaraudio.com/itempage.asp?model=LA670

This amp is powering the following speakers:

(2) 6x9s - http://www.legacycaraudio.com/itempage.asp?model=LS6908S

(2) 6.5” - http://www.legacycaraudio.com/itempage.asp?model=LS652S

(2) 2” tweeters – I don’t have the specs, but they are Legacy also.  The 6.5”s and the tweets are wired in series.

Amp 2: LA3070D - http://www.legacycaraudio.com/itempage.asp?model=LA3070D

This amp is pushing the following speakers: (2) LW1257D - http://www.legacycaraudio.com/itempage.asp?model=LW1257D

They are wired in parallel and the amp runs bridged mono.

Here is how I have it wired…  I have an optima yellow top battery, from there, I have about 12” of 4 guage wire into a 125A ANL fuse, then about 10’ of 4 guage wire to a distribution block in the back.  The 4 guage wire goes right through the distribution block to the LA3070D with no fuse.  Then I come off of the distribution block through a 60A AGU fuse and about 4’ of 8 guage wire to the LA670.

The main problem I am having is the headlights dimming when the volume is at 45 (the scale goes up to 60).  The other issue is when I am sitting idle at a light and I accelerate, the audio momentarily cuts out.  I opted not to waste my money on a stiffening capacitor, and went right for the high output alternator.  Stock alternator was 110 amps max.  The one I bought was tested at 145 amps at idle and a little over 220 amps max.

I upgraded my charging wires (alternator to positive battery, battery to chassis, and engine block to chassis) to 0 guage with a 200A ANL fuse between the alternator and the battery.  I’m still having the same problem and I’m at my wits end.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.  If you need more info, let me know.

List the vehicle and read the what is a proper ground sticky. Chances are that it is a problem inherent to the equipment.

Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

I'm off to re-read the sticky in case I missed something.

You probably need to check and improve your ground resistance, and maybe have your idle speed increased (or alternator pully changed) to keep the output of the alt higher at idle.  It could also be a bad connection at the HU, or a defective amplifier or HU.

Just a little heads up. Your fuse should be no more than 21 inches from the source of power. In your case you said your ANL fuse is approx. 12' after the battery. You might want to change this. I'm sure it won't solve your problem with the lights and the cutting but just a simple mistake that I seen that you may want to fix.

Just trying to help you out man.

Take it easy,

Jon

If your counting pennies and dimes then maybe you shouldn't be spending every penny and dime you have!!

Nah, he said 12" not 12' which is fine.  Not a problem there.
