I have a 2001 ZX2 Escort that I am trying to put a rostra 250-1223 electronic cruise control with the 250-3742 switch. The instructions said I don't need a tach wire, but I need both hot side and Cold side of brake switch. but the site said not to use the hot side

I have it all hooked up and it don't work, any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated

The hot side of the brake switch is GREEN/ red and the cold or switched side is green at the brake switch. Use a digital meter to check that the green cold side of the brake switch has no more than 5 ohms resistance to ground at rest. Check your DIP switch settings for the cruise. Your car has a 8000 PPM VSS wire and the 250-3742 switch is an open circuit type. If you need to change any DIP switches ,unplug the unit first otherwise the changes won't take affect. Make sure that you have the brown wire hooked to a good ignition source and that the ground wire for the cruise is into a clean paint free area of the chassis. If your car is an automatic, don't bother with the blue tach wire, just leave it disconnected. If it is a manual transmission then you may want to install a clutch switch inline in the violet wire to open it when depressing the clutch pedal. This will disengage the cruise. Still set it for an auto trans. Using the manual tran setting normally requires hooking up the tach, but it usually leads to operation problems in the cruise. It won't work smooth and can cut out at times. If your brake switch doesn't measure to ground at rest on the cold side, you need to install a relay so that it does. The cruise needs to see ground on the brake switch cold side to work. Pushing the brake pedal applies 12 volts and the cruise loses the ground reference and cuts out.

your the man, I'll have to check that out. I also have remote start with a disconnected clitch pedal swich (yes it's a manual). Can I use that switch or do I need a specal order one?
