Hi All,

Im from Ireland and have found the site very useful over the last while, Car alarms aren't installed to the same quality and an alarm install could cost easly a 1000euro for a high end alarm if not more,

My last alarm for example an Gemel (?) has been draining my battery ever since, so after install alarms for friends and family for the last year im am replacing my own,

My Question is this, DEI Viper 791vx or the Compustar 2WSS-AS

I love the Range of the Compustar but the DEI seems to have better addons such as the Radar Module ETC.

These "Plug and Play"modules are the main appeal of the DEI.

I am also well aware of the Warrenty issues but there are not Registered dealers for either in Ireland so its not relivant for myself,

Any advise would me much appreciated...

My preference is DEI, others will swear by the Compustar products. Keep in mind that most of the DEI accessories that you would want to add can be added to any manufacturer's system. If you want to add the Radar module made by DEI(508d?), you can use it with a Compustar system.

There is NO comparison to DEI and Compustar........come on..........

Something is telling me that DEI is making a play for Compustar and all of their lines.......

How does real world range compare between the two? I'm trying to decide on an alarm and have been seriously considering the Viper 5000 but what good is a paging alarm if you don't get range. Open to suggestions here.

The Compustar kills the DEI on range before you get into the entire real world argument, the DEI is 1/4 mile (400m) and the computstar is on paper 1.25miles (2KM), for me this is the real appeal of the Computar....

There seem to be no side by side feature set comparison available, i may look into drawng one up and posting it here to help people decide..

From reading the Wiring manual for the Viper and there site info this is the comparison i could come up with based on the features listed for the Compustar, please update if you know a unknown feature is there on the Viper or there is a Viper specific feature not present on the Compustar left out, Right now i am leaning towards the computstar if i can use the DEI backup battery and Siren with it

Personal preference would be to the COmpustar. I've installed DEI stuff before and they are well made, but I'm not a fan of the relay harnesses they use.

The only feature listed above that the 791 doesnt have is the temp sensor, everything else it has. As well it has tach and volltage sensing. If I was looking at a DEI product I would wait until the SST version comes out as it should hit the market very soon. It will have a mile on range on it and is suposed to have a more stable reange than the compustar

Hey Ravendarat,

Will that be an upgraded model of the current 791 or a new series altogether, do you knwo where it will be placed in relation to the 791, will this be within the next 3 months, also so you know if the 791 has the EST2 capability.
