I know... many of you probably hate bose but I am replacing speakers in my car that has a bose amp.

The rear runs 4ohm speakers (which I have)

The front runs 2ohm speakers (which I do not have).

Is wiring two 4ohm speakers together REALLY the same as a single 2ohm speaker - or does it just pretend to be and will mess up the amp?

Thanks,

David

First to your question: yes, two 4-ohm speakers wired in parallel presents a 2-ohm net load on the amplifier.  is it the SAME?  No, but it is the same impedance load.

Now to your setup.  You are replacing the factory BOSE speakers but still using the BOSE amps, correct?  You do not need to replace the 2-ohm speakers with 2-ohm speakers (although if you want to do that, new model Infinity Kappas are 2-ohms.)  You can replace the 2-ohm speakers with higher impedance 4-ohm speakers and the amp will be fine.  Higher is fine, do not go lower impedance.

Hi,

Thanks a lot - I really appreciate your help.

I knew that it presented the 2ohm load but I did not know if it was the same; it's good to know that it really is not.

It's also great to know that I can use 4ohm speakers - that is a big help.

I've only been to this site a couple of times and everytime I learn something - thanks again.

David
