to add a trunk pin to my alarm do i just run the single wire from the pin to the wire on the brain of the alarm? or do i need a diode?

Just run a wire directly from the alarm system to the trunk trigger wire. If it's an add on type then there's no additional relays required but if your tapping into the trunk light then see polarity it is first and you may need to reverse the polarity of the wire so that the alarm recognizes it.

hook it up to the (-)(+) instant trigger if your alarm has that feature

How do i reverse the polairity?...my trunk light is on a mercury switch

The mercury switch will ground out so you won't need a relay to reverse polarity.

I plan on doing the same thing to my wife's car and just wanted to make sure.
