yeah I need to track down the install shop that did the installation for any warrantee stuff. the thing was that it came installed in a car a friend of mine bought... we are going to try swaping out remotes, and ee if that fixes it.

This may seem stupid, but the remote itself could be the cause. I have a compustar 2W900FM-AS and at first, everything was fine. Then after about 2 weeks, my remote would go crazy, it would play a "tune" and act like it was notifying me, and basically restart.
I found out the battery connector was loose inside, and I "tweaked" the spring a little, to "tighten" the battery more. So the battery is inside and it doesn't give a bad connection. Ever since I did this, everyting works perfect..
I know it souncs crazy, but take the battery out, and give a little "tug" on the spring inside, to give a tigther spring rate, so the battery is more snug. See if that fixes the problem, mine was regular too.. so that may be it...
