Xbox Power Supply?

i have an Xbox that i disassembled with the intention of putting in my truck (2000 Ford Ranger). i took it apart becasue it was kind of bulky and i dont have much room so i figured i could take the parts out and reassemble it inside a center console i'm designing. ok, when i was at the installer institute one of the instructors took a PS2 and made it run on 12 volts. i'm not sure but i believe he removed the power supply. i was wondering if anyone had a clue as to how it was done and if it could be done with an Xbox. i'll post pictures in a few hours of the xbox motherboard and power supply so you guys can see them. thanks for any help(2) 12" JL W3V3

well the xbox runs on 12 volts internally as it is actually a dedicated computer. with out the additions. the easiest way would be is to add a power inverter that will convert 12v to 120 for the box. it is possible with a ps2 especially the new mini one. as it runs on 12 volts after the power supply. but the xbox works on 12 votls and 5 v volts at the same time. Actually, if you use your DMM to test where the power supply connects to the Xbox motherboard you could quickly and easily locate where the connections are 5v, 12v, and any other possible voltage. Then make a voltage regulator for the corresponding voltages on the Xbox. At the least you would have one that changes 14.4volts (consider the maximum from the car's system) to 5v and one that changes 14.4volts to 12v. I have made a couple voltage regulators using these: 5volt Regulator and a few resistors. The wiring diagram is on the back of the packaging. That's what I would try I can't be held accountable if it doesn't work though

they do actually make replacement power supplies for using the xbox in the automobile environment complete with automatic power up and down cant think of who has them off the top of my head but they do exist.
