DEI 555X vs 555XW

Hello, What are the differences with the DEI 555X vs 555XW ? Will the 555XW work for a 2005 Toyota Corolla CE ? Or am I stuck using a 556U ? Thanks

The 555X comes in blister packing, the 555XW comes in a white cardboard box. Its just a different way for a dealer to order them depending on if it will be on a shelf, or on a peg hook. It will not work on your car. A 556U will work. You could also get an XK05 from bypasskit.com. You will need software version PKT2. Unless you are a dealer, they won't sell direct so you will have to find one elsewhere.

Yeah, JWorm nailed it on the packaging and all that. The 555X/555XW is for older Toyotas, and will NOT work on your car. Take a look at the metal shaft of your key; you'll notice there's a small dimple near the plastic head. The dimple indicates that it is Toyota's new-style key. Last time I checked, bypasskit.com would sell product to anyone. It's just a lot cheaper if you're a dealer and place a big order. You might call some local install shops, see if they sell Trilogix product, and ask for a price on the part you want. Don't be surprised if they won't allow you to return the product, and don't want to give you tech support-------they will probably feel that those two services are part of professional installation. Also, Trilogix product can be found under the Peripheral brand, with a letter P in front of the part number, as well as from Code Alarm-----you might find someone who deals in one of those brands. Another option would be to call a good locksmith. They might sell you an aftermarket transponder key cheaper than the Toyota dealer would, and then you could still put that in a 556U or similar bypass box.

Chris, Thanks for the info on the key. Unfortunately it's my neice's car, I was going to install a Hornet 564T ( as a surprise present )for her next week when I go visit. As for programming an aftermarket key or obtaining a suitable transponder bypass, anyone have a place they reccomend in the San Diego, CA area ? I'm actually from Virginia so have no idea what's available in San Diego. Thanks
