2006 tundra 4 dr JBL / Alpine 9857

I bought the head unit on features and sound - now the dudes at Best Buy are telling me that I can't use the factory JBL amps... I think they are on crack - Any thoughts or experience here? thanks!!!

We had one the other day, however we were not able to use the factory amp (the amp on the passenger side under the back seat in the storage box). We cut the plugs and tried to use a hi-lo converter but we were unsucessful. We simply bypassed it and used an aftermarket amp, but caught all the speaker leads there.

can you tell me why you bypassed the amp? Help me understand a bit here - is the arrangement in the Toyota strange or something? Is it one power amp for the whole car, or just for the back seats? It seems strange to just cut that out of the circuit and use the head-unit's power section (or buy another power amp) unless there is something really odd about it. Help me out here... thanks! Harry

The JBL system has a digital amp turn on. The factory head unit turns the amp on and off digitally. You have to relocate the factory head unit to keep the factory amp, or bypass the amp.

Yeah - good idea, simulating the power up... So let's assume that if I change the head unit - does the amp now need to be replaced??? Will this alpine unit have enough umph to make the factory speakers work well?
