A lot of them- the Gen3 LEDs used by the manufacturers put out ~25 lumens in blue. The Gen1 2600mcd blue LED from radshack translates to ~1/2 lumen.
A constant voltage power supply. Mobile voltage is going to vary, and you need to get the most of the LEDs you use.
A flashing circuit to run this contraption of yours
Thousands of dollars- so that the SAE can type accept your lamp, otherwise it is illegal to use on the road, regardless if you're an emergency vehicle or not.

dont talk about what you don't know....that is a good lesson you need to learn. my dept. does pay for the majority of my equipment but not extra dash lights or grill lights that i wanna add just because i want them. i don't know too many depts that do pay for you to add extra lighting that no one else on the dept has. as far as being an impersonator?... you need to think before you speak... thanks for posting on my post about something you dont know anything about...anyone else have a logical answer to my question? thanks to all that posted before though...

I didn't even catch that this was a patrol car, I just thought you were a volunteer ff.

Same response though, but an extra caveat seeings this is a patrol car- illegal lighting is a great bargaining chip to get out of citations. I know of several people who have had all of their tickets dropped due to lighting infractions on police cars. Don't open yourself and your department to the liability problems.
