all right all, here goes. I was in a hurry because i had to be @ work in like 2 hrs. I had to redo the front driver side door of my 97 SC2 Saturn. for some reason when i redid the passenger door it seemed as if the driver's door was not producing as much bass as the passenger door (identical components identical deadening) so i decided today before work i'd redo the driver side door. well i completed the undoing and as i was redoing i wasnt thinking and i didnt unhook the amp/speaker combo and had the stereo on. well i went to put the Driver side woofer back in and the magnet caught hold and yanked the speaker towards the metal door and sparks and then the amp was off.... i turn off the car, remove the speaker from the door, re attach the wires and now im getting what seems like very bad alternator noise, i thought maybe the ground was just being finnicky so i re-sanded it to ensure good contact and i am still getting the noise. however its only when the key is in the Run Position, not ACC. it is consistent across both Passenger and Driver side. so thats the story.
Prominent info:
Kicker KX200.2
Homemade component set
Saturn 97 SC2
Alternator Noise when key is in run
no noise when key is in ACC
amp now has Turn On Thump.
Redid the ground, grounded to a dedicated ground.
noise through both left and right channel.
Thanks guys.
PS: the component set turned out great for anyone that remembers the old thread of mine.

sounds like you fried your amp. try putting a ground wire directly to the rca shielding thaty may help

Amp is fubar, off to the service shop it goes. Lesson learned the hard way. Disconnect power from the system in all cases.

Pretty much what i figured however instead of going to the service shop.. me goes to store and buys another a perfectly good 70 dollars wasted. altho in the positive light i made more than 70 dollars today at work so i just write it off as my hurriedness to get to work ended up costing me a day @ work.
Thanks guys. Thread over and Out.

bringing this back from a lil over a couple weeks.
Amp is perfectly fine, however the Preout from my headunit is toast.
switched from Front Pre-out to Rear Pre-out and problems are gone, had a local audio shop bench test the amp and she is perfectly fine, now i need to find out what to do with this second amp that i bought :D
surprisingly my W7 sounds really good on only 150ish watts.
Kicker KX200.2 @ 3ohms = ~150watts.

using this thread as its still related to my amps.
Wondering if this is a valid way to check for alternator noise.
If I Use some RCA to 3.5mm cable to directly attach my ipod to the inputs of an amp, there by removing the RCA's is this an acceptable way to remove the chance that there is noise infiltrating the signal cable? i am getting a thump on turn on and just general noise from the system, it has gotten increasingly worse after i switched from 8awg to a 4awg to distro block. thinking the current draw is now creating noise, i have never had a problem with the RCA and Power cable "cross talking" until potentially this right now.
THanks

Where is your power wire related to your rca cables?

same side, i know its a no-no but i've used everything from Esoteric ZN2.0's to Dollar store RCA's with Gender adapters along side the 4awg wire and never had noise until this car.

I may switch altho, with the addition of the above problem it may be the actual headunit, i went out and measured the ground resistance and got .2 ohms for Ground, with a decent meter, nothing like the fluke 8010 im used to tho.

I've got different grounds as of right now, i will swap the sub amp to the same ground as the speakers. who knows its just weird how both amps are responding similarly to engine RPM's, as they drop the sub also drops freqs, and above 2k the LPF kills off the sub and brings it onto the front stage with a high whine.

Its very possible that it is the headunit if you didn't have problems till you sparked the wires.
