I have had the Pioneer Avic Z1 installed in my 1998 Nissan Maxima SE Auto by tweeter. This unit is done with its learning process, but sometimes when I'm sitting still and in park, the map screen will start moving like I'm driving when I'm not. I called Pioneer and they said that I need to connect the Speed Pulse sensor. I called tweeter and asked them about this, they informed me they to not connect it because it could damage the ECU, and its their company policy not to install it. I dont know how true this is, but its annoying how inaccurate my Navi system can be at times. Should it be connected to the VSS for better accuracy? Is it BS that it could damage my ECU or do they just not want to install it?

To the best of my knowleadge thats BS and it sounds like a installer just got lazy

I called them and raised some fuss about it. He said he would connect it since I request it. But he cannot be held responsible. Do you think this is something I can do myself, because I dont want them to screw up my car out of spite?

if you feel comfortable takin out you cluster here. by the way the z1 has built in diodes to stop fead back to the cpu's

bring back the rotary phone so i dont have to press 1 to proceed in english

The fact that the installer said what he said shows what a crappy installer he is and that he doesn't understand how these systems work.

Without both the VSS and the antennae the system cannot do a full calibration. The VSS nor the head unit will be damaged.

Thats what I figured. Even the installation manual said that the Speed Sensor must be installed in order for the system to be more accurate.

Well I installed the VSS and everything is working great. Tweeter now told me that my warranty is now voided. I dont care, I wanted my system to work right., and now it does. Thanks again to all that helped me.

OK this is a little off topic, but I was browsing these forums and keep noticing the mods locking threads because people want to unlock the DVD playback, stating that it is illegal and there for against the forum rules. If that’s the case, why are the nav discs posted all over the place. Even the links to the software. It is for sure illegal to steal software from a company. To my knowledge it is not illegal to modify your head unit, it is only illegal to watch the DVD while driving. The act of unlocking it is not however illegal. I personally have my N2 unlocked so that I can use an audio DVD. I put a whole bunch of cds on one DVD with still pictures of the covers so that you can see the disc that is playing. It's static so no motion. The problem with the DVD being locked is that I would not have any skip control while driving.

At any rate my point is that it seams to me people are getting worked up over modding the Z1 or whatever when its not actually illegal, yet nothing is said about material being illegally copied and distributed on the same site. An act that is blatantly illegal and actually costs Pioneer a ton of money. Modding the unit actually helps them because it voids the warranty.

Well first response is that it isn't distributed from this website. Second, the act of having the video on while in motion is illegal and that won't be discussed here. Third, this post has nothing to do with what you posted and you bumped a post that is over a month old which is also against forum rules.
