Dumb question most likely... but here it goes.
Local Austin installer told me that the 13w7 / JL 1000/1 / vented enclosure setup I was installing in my z06 wasn't going to do anything but "huff" and that I was was wizin' in the wind. "w7s are just designed to blow and produce maxiumum SPL in the process" were some additional nuggets of wisdom.
Well, now that I'm done with it... it hits pretty damn hard. I want to know what it means before I go up there and ask him to fix the huffin' "problem".

That's some interesting info, especially that they are designed to blow and produce maximum spl in the process. I thought huffing is where one inhales paint fumes-maybe that guy does this?

The only thing that might be questionable is the actual enclosure and how you are going to fit any thing into a vette.

I bet he is telling you your port cross-sectional area is too small. This will cause the air to move at well beyond the accepted speed (measured in Mach, as in Mach 1, Mach 2, etc.). Ideally you need to keep your vent air speed to below Mach .1, or the port will "huff", or make turbulence noises. The port air should never make noise of it's own, but the port should.
:::::EDIT:::::
BTW, the guy's a dumb@$$. That'll be an awesome combination, and you'll get plenty of output as well. Looking at the port, I'd say it's big enough, so your air speed will be low, I think you're gonna be pretty safe.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

yeah, considered that as well. winisd says port velocity maxes out close to 90 fps.
And real-world listening... no wind noise.
He meant something else. He thought JL was junk and wanted me to put in some JBL in it's place. Probably just yanking my chain since he wasn't JL dealer.

Hmm, maybe "huffin" and "wizzin in the wind" and "designed to blow" are all just Texas slang terms.  You know, something like "You'll be huffin and wizzin in the wind with those JL Audio speakers that are designed to blow" might mean in English, "You'll be pounding my butt and exceeding my SPL numbers with those JL Audio speakers that are designed to blow my doors off."  Or something like that, you never know with Texans.

I think "Huffin" is a term used by installers that have a degree from Texas University. The slang term is used in a "jealous" sense, considering the fact that he does not sell the JL brand. He is actually referring to the type of systems he has heard in the past. This is where the enclosure was not properly designed and the veloctiy of the air was actually making a noise (undesirable). On another note, that box looks killer. The only thing I would add is a lexan window somewhere on the back.

BTW What kind of high end will keep up with a 13w7/1000??????
