Hi,

I'm really new to the car audio thing (about 2 months or so) but I'm trying to learn how to do things myself.  My question is:  How do I tell (visually) whether a sub is a DVC sub?  This is probably very obvious, but its something I don't know.  I've tried looking it up on the manufacturer's web site, but they say that it is availible in both single and dual.

Thanks,

Dennis

A dual voice coil will have two sets of terminals where you hook up the speaker wires to. One on each side of the woofer.

Thanks for the reply!

I kinda thought that the extra terminals might be it but I wanted to be sure before I started trying to figure out these series/parrallel configurations.

yah the speaker will say on the box 100% of the time if it's DVC(dual voice coil)  Dual voice coil subs allow more wiring options.  You can wire Dual voice coils either in parallel or series, the owners manual usually tells you how.  they are amyne types of DVCs usually DVC 2 ohm, DVC 4 ohm, or DVC 3ohm.

You can also get DVC in  6, 8 and even 12ohm loads too.

Most home subwoofers come in 8ohm eiter SVC(single voice coil) or DVC
