I have two ignition wires in my truck, and my wire harness for my alarm has one wire for ignition 1 only and no secondary ignition wire.  How would I wire up a relay to power the 2nd ignition wire? Is it necessary to power the 2nd ignition wire?

Yes, you have to hook up to the 2nd ignition wire in most cases or else your car will not drive properly. Pin 85 to Ignition 1, Pin 86 to (-) output when running from your starter unit, Pin 30 to 2nd Ignition wire and Pin 87 to 12v+.

That is of course, if you are installing a remote start unit, if just an alarm, hook the alarms IGN wire to just one of the IGN wires in the truck.

My alarm is both an alarm and starter unit.  It came with a relay for the starter wire.  So am I correct then to relay the second ignition wire?

if your alarm came with a relay for the stater wire , doesn't mean it will start your car. That relay is probably to interrupt the starter while the alarm is on.
