Hey all, just trying to verify some info about a 2005 Dodge Dakota. First of all I have been told that the 2005 has a different Grey Transponder Key than the other years, ie. the 04 and even the 06, is this correct or will the old gray key work for the transponder bypass. Second, there seems to be conflicting info as to which wires are needed for the IGN, second IGN and the ACC and second ACC wires required to be hooked up for remote start. Can anyone clarify these wire colors for me . Any help or info would be appreciated.

ive checked stores that sell transpoder key for dodge, and according to them, 01-04 dodge dakota are the same. And the 05-06 are the same.

Just because it has the remote built into the key, doesn't mean it has an anti-theft transponder also........I have not seen a Dakota with a transponder yet.

Look carefully at the dashboard, at all the various warning lights......you will see one that is just a circle, a little smaller than a pencil eraser.

If that doesn't light up when you turn on the ignition, there is no transponder.

thanks for the reply guys, I am pretty sure it has a transponder system as the key is a 3 button remote and the dash does have a small red led that lights up during the start process. Thanks again for the replies, would you have any info on the wire colors for the 2nd ignition and the 2nd accessary wires.

According to my resources the 2005 Dakota has a transponder anti-theft system.There is two types of transponder systems.The later one being encrypted.You can get a by-pass module now which will do both types.As for your wire colours here they are: Bat 1-- red,Bat 2 -- RED / blue,Ign. 1-- pink/green,Ign 2 -- pink,Acc. -- blue,Start -- pink/blue

Thanks for the respose John, Am I then correct in assuming according to your info that a 2nd acc wire is not required for remote start installation in this vehicle.

Your truck might NOT even have the second accs. wire...if it's there .....use it!

No the second acc. wire is not required for remote start.

Those trucks have a LOT of accessory wires. I can never remember which ones are necessary and which aren't.

what I usually do is I connect my constant, starter, and ignition (those are easy to get right).........then I go on with the rest of the install: ground, antenna, tach, and whatever else.......

At that point, the remote starter will start and run the engine, but you'll have no climate controls, and all sorts of warning lights lit up on the dash, but don't worry..........

Then I take the truck's various accessory wires, and just make temporary connections from the remote starter, until I get a combination that makes the climate controls work, and all of the warning lights go out.

Also, I believe there is a NEGATIVE accessory wire that none of the tech sheets tell you about......and the climate controls won't work without it.

If you lay on your back and look at the backside of the keyswitch, you can see all the wires..........there's a small black that's a ground wire.........and then another small wire, I think light blue? that's a ground only in Run........

Once you have verified that, you can use a ground-when-running output from your remote start to that wire; no relay should be necessary.
