Damn, all I can say is "LoJack....LoJack....LoJack...."
Just had pretty much my car stolen Saturday 07/29. It was my friend's car, but I fix and took care of any mechnical problems.
LoJack is your best friend, not sure if it is offered in that region of the world.
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Lo-Jack helps, but is not completely effective. I won't say it, BUT think about it, Lo-Jack is like GPS, and well if you are smart enough to figure it out, that is all I will say about that.

i have had a customer recently tell me about his custom truck being stolen and he had lo-jack.  it did get his truck back to him, but it took so long for it to make it to the cops and then through the proper process that when they finally found the truck, it was stripped completely and was left on the side of the road...which would have been found anyway being left beside the highway.  the whole process took hours for them to even start looking much less find it.  he (and all of us at the shop here) were convinced of lo-jack's uselessness other than getting the empty shell of a vehicle back.

Lojack is nothing like gps, that is all I am going to say. Well not really, it is more like a homing beacon and doesn't rely on direct line of sight to the sattelites. Also nothing is completely effective, nothing.

This is unfortunately probably an effect of the specific department's policy reguarding the reporting of a stolen vehicle. Some departments require you to fill out a report at the police station and this is probably what caused the delay in your friends situation.
