someone correct me if i am wrong but the main difference bewteen a/b and d is how wattage is derived and class d amps run much cooler and more effienctly.

1500 watts is 1500 watts.  An amplifier's class describes the electrical circuitry used to produce those watts.

the difference between a class A/B and a class D amp is the efficiency rating. A class D amp is much more efficient.

All that is true but it really doesn't matter to the SPL performance of a speaker system.  1500 watts output is 1500 watts output and it doesn't matter what amplifier topology produces it.

Now don't get me wrong, efficiency can be very important to the user, especially when considering upgrading the vehicle's alternator (which a 1500 watt class A/B amp will probably require while a 1500 watt class D or T amp may not.)  And, there are some significant SQ differences in the classes especially for mains, not so much for subwoofer amps.  But the original poster wondered if amplifier class by itself will produce differences in power output.  No, it will not.

Hey DYOHN, dont forget that eclipse and alpine have the new ICEpower D class amps that are slowly proving to be just as good for SQ as calss A/B
