I am going to be heading off to college in a little bit and it looks like I am going to be getting a Ford Focus or VW Golf to be going with me. I am planning on putting in a nice system and so I am looking for some ideas. Although college may seem like a bad idea for a nice system, its gonna be pretty well protected and I've already covered those bases.
Currently my set-up is a JBL 1200.1 BP amplifier. It can run at down to 1 ohm and it puts out the same amount of power at 1 ohm as it does at 2. However, i have found that it is better off running at 2 ohms, so if i can get my wiring configuration to 2ohms, that'd be great. I have 2 CV 12" vmax's as well, but subs are what i think i will be wanting to upgrade. I also have two 15" passive radiators from acoustic elegance that I may/may not use depending on what the box looks like. Some of the subs I have been looking at are:
2 15" Soundsplinter RL-P
1 12" Soundsplinter RL-S
1 15" Eclipse Titanium
2 15" Ascendant Audio Asenal
Those are the ones i researched quickly and could find prices for. I wasn't sure what RE's new prices were or what Adire Audio was charging. The SX's and the brahma's have always intriqued me. Are the brahma's that good anymore?
What else do you guys have? I really like my JBL BP1200, so i'm hoping to keep that amp. it ends up putting out about 1400rms @ 2ohms and 14V, so i'm hoping that's gonna be plenty. If i have to get a new amp, i can always look though. Lemme hear your inputs!

Forgot to add onto this that I'm looking at about 500 bucks top for my subs. And as for space...depending on how strongly you guys urge one subwoofer or another, i think i can handle them all. It'll just be how tall, short, etc the box is gonna be. But i'm not going to be storing much or giving people rides in this car that much, so space is pretty much just for me.

My advice. You probably won't like it now, but trust me, you'll thank me later. :-)
Go with the Golf. Sell your amplifier if you need to. Downsize your system. Get an amp with half the rated power, buy an Adire Brahma 10" and put it in a small sealed box.
Why?
1) Because a quality 10" is more than enough to fill either of those cars if you really do just care about sound for you.
2) Folks in college are no longer impressed with booming cars; especially females.
3) Over the next 10 years you will move more than you can possibily believe. Seriously, you will likely move over 6 times, and this doesn't even count breaks, internships, visits to girlfriends' parents' homes, spring break, etc.
You'll need all the space in your car as possible.
In other words, you will probably be giving people rides and storing more than you know.

Well i'm not worried about have a "boom car", syreally want one. College isn't the safest place for a system if you drive around showing off how expensive it is.I've just heard some great things about those subwoofers and have been really happy with them. As for moving and stuff, if i have to, i either can use my parents excursion or I will be able to take the box out. Another reason i'm looking at getting a loud set-up is because my car audio store in town has some pretty nice competitions and the people there aren't thatt impressive with the scores. I think like a 12" elemental design at 138.7 won it last year. So if i win first place, thats a couple hundred dollars there and my system will be paid for soon. So its a little of both...i'm just looking at this set-up now and seeing what it will look like. I also have to think about the weight factor too. Those subs sure aren't light, haha   I've got 2 RE SE's with my PR's in a 6 cu ft box inside the trunk of my camry and that thing noticably sags a bit. I'm just looking at my options for now.
What would be a small, simple set-up that would hit loud when i needed it to? I suppose it wouldn't be that great looking if i give my boss a ride somewhere and have a huge backseat filled up with one or two giant subwoofers
