Uh, what are you trying to play? DVD-R is a disc not a format or file type. The answer is probably you can only play dvd video's like you buy in a store not video files you download off of the internet.

You should use DVD+R to burn your movies.  This media format is more universal to various video players.

I don't use videos off the internet. I make back up copies of my originals so I don't have to use those. I wanted to know what format my dvd-r need to be for me to play in the AVIC N2? thanks.

I am having trouble understanding your question.  However Nero works for burning any kind of video.  You just have to have the right kind of drive and the correct media for what you want to do.  (I've found the MadDog drive to work great).  Again tho, for movies use DVD+R media.  If you backup your movies on DVD-R they may play on some player and not others.

If your movies are larger than the standard DVD+R capacity of 4.7GB then you will need to use Dual Layer disk or DVD+R DL which have a capacity of 8.5 GB.  Of course you will need a dual layer burner to write to them.

Good Luck...

Pioneer DVD players are compatible with DVD-R or DVD-RW discs (and CD-R or RW.)  DVD+R will not work in them.
