What amp, what size box and everything else you can think of to tell us the difference between your friends and your's and we can give you a better decision.
As far as we know you have a 1000 watt amp and your friend a 100 watt amp?
I've seen a 10 beat a 12 inch sub but of course they had a much bigger amp.

Actually, from my understanding the 2006 L5 is about 2db louder than the 2006 L7. With the same amount of power, same box dimensions.

Well you are very close young grasshopper, there is more to add to this.
The 2006L5 is louder then the 2005L7 by .3-1.5 decibles. The 2005L5 is louder then the 2006L7 untill you get to around 1400watts then they are about equal.
The 2006 L7 gets louder with a ton of power and will hold together, but the L5's give out at around 2500watts per woofer.
This is a PURE SPL test only.    3 second tone burps

My friend has an L7 with a 600watt kicker amp.
Im not sure how big his box is.
I have THIS L5 AND THIS BOX I found someone to buy my L5 so im looking into buying an L7 and putting it into the box that my L5 came in, im also running a 600 watt kicker amp.

I will say it again, with your L5 in a custom built enclosure....look on the kicker website at the manual for your sub, you would easily beat a L7 with the same amount of power.
Trust me on this.   I have tested it and the new L5 will beat the L7 up to about 2000 watts per woofer, then the L5 just cant handle it, but the L7 will continue to get louder.
That is just in a pure tone secenario, but I know the drop in test we did with (1) L7 12 Vs an L5 12 was quite surprising with one sub powered by one kx1200.1   The L5 was close to 2 decibles louder with both music and tone.

The one big reason i want an L7 though is because is can handle more power, i mean the last L5 I had I blew, and now im always worried about blowing it. Are you saying that my L5 in that custom box would beat an L7 in the same box or what? Jeff do you have msn or something because im not sure im reall understanding all this stuff

On the amount of power that you both have, the L5 will beat the L7.   The major factor right now that I see is the pre-fabricated box.   With the amount of power that you have I dont see why you would ever blow a woofer unless it was being clipped horribly.
We have been running a single L5 for about 2 months now, powered by a KX1200.1, and seen no problems what so ever from it.
