Would upgrading from the 500/1 to the 1000/1 make a big difference? I used to have an Eclipse Titanium SW9122 and I overpowered it and loved the way it sounded.
Let me know what you think!

isn't the formula twice the power gets you +3db...?

Twice power gets you +3db of HEADROOM.
The vast majority of the time you'll experience no benefit whatsoever.
This would be a waste of money upgrade, in my opinion.
If you have the space, adding a second woofer is a better upgrade. This will increase the sensitivity by 3db, which will always benefit you.

Thanks guys. I just didnt want to be wishing down the road that I had gotten the 1000/1 instead.
Plus the 1000/1 would put more strain on the charging system.

if the amps were the same price, would that convince you to buy the 1000/1? Or are the benefits still marginal?

Benefits are still marginal. ...unless you think you can compete in that watt range.

Not me.  For the same price? (considering that means that the 1000/1 costs the same as the 500/1...not the opposite!)  I'm a hog;  I'll take the big one.  JL 12w7 amp, 500/1 or 1000/1 - Last Post -- posted image.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Will I actually notice a difference in music quality? I just want to be getting my money's worth from the woofer. Everyone I know with a w7 has used the 500/1. I liked the sound I had when 'overpowering' my last woofer.
