Hi i have a problem with my celica. when i turn it on it starts ok but after driving it for about 2 minutes it will start to stutter, as if the engine was not recieving enough gas. when i get to about 40-50 mph i accelerate and i hear the engine accelerate but not the car itself, when i come to a stop at a light the idle fluctuates wildly and the engine dies. i went to 3 mechanics and one said it was a transmission problem, one said it was a fuel pump/filter problem and the third one said it was an electrical problem. What is going on? i am very confused and if anyone can i help me i would very much appreciate it.

Car specs:1990 Celica GT, 2.2 engine, 90000 miles

First thing I would check out is the fuel filter in the engine ( replace as needed ) and then go and check the gas tank fuel filter ( check and replace or clean if necessary ) . The last thing I would do is clean the injectors and replace any old/damaged plug wires. This happened to a friend of mine with his 2002 Acura TL Type-S when he fueled up at gas station ( exactly what you described ) and ended up being water traces in the gas ( 1:3 ratio !!! ). As well I filled up one time and I had the same problem, but instead I had gravel in my gas tank !! Took out the filter andreplaced the filter & problem solved.

Go to the auto parts store and get a repair manual for your car.  Haynes manuals suck; Chilton's are halfway decent.

If you plan to keep the car for a long time, try to get a genuine Toyota service manual for it, even though it costs more.  eBay is a good place to start looking.
