Need a better ground

I have a 03 taurus and now matter where i test with my dmm the lowest resistance i could find is 6.0. Other than run a ground from the battery does anyone have any ideas. and is it better to have a long ground with lower resistance than have a short ground with hig resistance.

I'm trying to ground my system. I did start the bid three. I did the neg to engine block and engine to chasis grounds. but i'm waiting fo my new altenator before i do the charge back wire. I tested several locations through out the car but i got the same result. I used my wire brush to make sure that all the paint was gone. but the stock bolt gave me the lowest resistance.

You can't measure resistance in a circuit that is live. If you are trying to measure the resistance to ground in your ground wire for your system, you MUST disconnect the negative battery cable first to kill any active circuits fouling up your readings. Using resistance to check grounds isn't the best way to do it. Leave the battery hooked up and turn your system on. Set your meter to DC voltage. Measure from the any point in the ground wire to a KNOWN good ground and note the voltage. As an example, place one probe on the amp ground terminal and the other to a clean area of the chassis next to where your ground wire terminates. You should get a reading of 0.2 volts or less. If it is higher than this then you have a bad ground cable. You may want to do a search on grounding for more information. sparky

what is  " neg to engine block"?,  is it housing of alternator or engine block to chassis?
