So I was putting in some new wires in my car today. I have a trunk mounted amp for my speakers and when I put the negative speaker lead in the terminal it played fine. Me just being curious took the negative lead of the wire out and touched it to bare metal instead and the speaker played noticably louder.

I guess my question is it better to seperately ground the speaker or to just run it back to the amp? Should it effect the speaker that much as it was doing mine?

Check your wiring at the amp terminals for loose strands touching where they don't belong....to begin with.

Speakers operate with AC. A signal goes to the speaker through both + and -. The chassis should not provide this signal, therefore some wiring is not where it should be.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Stupid question, but is the negative lead of your amp grounded to bare metal? Or is ti just grounded to a bolt?

I have double and triple checked every single connection in my car since I had this little "incident"

It's grounded to bare metal but I never did check it with a DMM to see how good it was.. which I'm thinking about doing one of these days when I have time.

I was and still am totally confused.
