Help with amp cutting out

Is the Amp getting HOT when it fails?  Also, double check your wiring, and make sure that it is indeed seeing a 4ohm or 2 ohm , or whatever lanzar claims the amp is stable at.    Also, George makes a good point, I would follow is advise about the ratings of the amp, if the amp is a mono-block amp, they are typically 2 ohm or lower stable, however, most 2ohm stable amps that are multi-channel , are usually stable to 2ohms for just that channel.  Without knowing more specifics about the exact wiring, and the specific model of amp, I cannot analyize the situation further.

sounds like your car isnt producing enough current to keep the amp going...you should ditch your capacitor since it is essentially dead weight and only further taxes your already weak-sounding alternator...also, look at getting a higher amperage alternator...

what car do you have and what is the amperage rating on your alternator? my first guess would be the current issue, since you say your grounds are OK, and you arent doing impedance overload...

 I have only seen TWO amps that were really bullet proof 2 ohm stable mono.. the jl 500/1 and the newer alpine MRD-F500 (think thats the model anyway)

I would feel uncomfortable shopping in your store if this is the case...what brands do you carry???

 I have a Crossfire BMF 1000d which I am running at 1 ohm, the new JBL D classes are all 1 ohm stable, as well as mmats amps, Orion amps, Blade amps, Linear Power amps, DEI amps, Memphis amps, some of the older Rockford amps, as well as all of the new bd series, Digital Designs amps, Harrison Labs amps USamps amps...even Lanzar makes 1 ohm stable amps (the Vibe 1000d)...thats over a dozen that popped into my head in fifteen seconds...hell, even Sony has 1 ohm stable amps out...

not to really pick on you here, but this is one of the stupidest and most mis-informative statements I have seen on this or any other car audio forum...

its an 89 Corolla GTS, i assume that the current is about 80 amps. The guy at the alternator specialtry shop (aka Big Bubba) said that they do not make and cannot rewind the alternator on this car. Says that you can only rewind american car's alternators. Ne1 know where i can get a bigger alternator for this car?

contact Dominic Iraggi...he will probably be able to tell you more than anyone I personally know of...he does alot of custom windings, and I am sure he rebuilds import alternators as well...he does top notch work and is a great guy to deal with...

A number of things could be causing the amp to shut down.

1)not enough current- your wire is thick enough. could be your alternator not strong enough. battery could be weak or terminals corroded. your ground point could be corrode or loose, perhaps some of your crimps are loose or corroded?make sure your ground is on the actual body of the vehicle on bare metal-not on a panel that has been spot welded to the main body. All of these can cause voltage drops and poor conductivity.

2)your amp is overheating-regardless if you have the proper load on the amp or not, if it doesn't have proper airflow it will overheat.make sure there is at least 2 inches all around the amp for air circulation. is it in an enclosed area?if so, you need to allow air to enter and escape the area, maybe mount a fan so it blows across the cooling fins of the amp and out the other end.Also, the amp has to be mounted vertically or right side up in order to cool properly, if it is upside down this is wrong.

3)you could be pushing the woofers too hard-if you play them so loud to the point that they are distorting the impedence and other characteristics of the woofers change making it hard on the amp

4)your signal could be clipping coming out of the amp or perhaps the voltage on your signal leads is too great for the signal input of the amp

you will probably find a problem in at least one or all of these area's, if not, well maybe the amp has a problem? anyhow, what it boils down to si process of elimination.  Good Luck!

actually i think the amp sucks because i have a lanzar 1000 5 channel i only had a jl w6 hooked up and the amp always used to shut off only one speaker at 3 ohms and it was turning off exactly the same problem as yours

now i have a fosgate 500a2 its 500x1 at 4ohms i have 2 fosgate dvc hooked up together at total of 1ohm and that sh*t hits ive had it hooked up for about three months now and that sh*t is still hittin one time it ripped a paper from the woofer but i silliconned it and its still slammin the amp is probably pushing out 1500wattsx1
