1998 ford explorer xlt with keyless, here is the deal, I've been running throught all these search pages and cant find an answer. If everything lists, these pink / YELLOW + pink/green, as lock, unlock, why cant i run the negative trigger to them directly from the unit, everyone talks about a negitive polarity 5 wire, why would i waste my time with that, I have a 451M on hand, but I can't seem to find these wires, and when I do find the same combition of colors, it is always is the same problems I read about, postive at pink/green.

that and the tan/lt. green wire for the hood pin cannot be found, but i could just run my own,

so if anyone has ever done this sucessfully please tell me how

I hate when they give vague labels such as, "Divers Side Kick" I mean common' there has to be at least 100 wires down there, esp. where the PCM wires come through...

For that year Ford Explorer it's a (-) trigger door lock and unlock wire. You can run a direct (-) 250 mA signal to the wires and it will trigger the lock & unlock if you tagged the proper wires. These wires are hidden quite well in th loom of tape and wires that come directly from the door boot between the truck and the door itself. You might be better off trying to fish the wires straight from the boot if you can't access the wires in the kick panel.

I'm pretty sure the two wires run in the big harness down the kick and towards the back of the truck. Pull the kick, lift the black rubber mat behind it and they should be that big wire harness behind the mat. Jeff's right tho, negative pulse pink/green and pink / YELLOW...

thanks for the replys guys, i pulled to different sized pink/green wires from there both +12v. I'll look for them again next weekend, but any luck on the tan/lt green? I'd prefer to not run any wires under the hood on this one...

The hood pin wire will only be there if it has a factory alarm. As for the lock wires, they will rest at +12v but go to ground when you use the switch on the door.

yea thanks i dont htink the hood pin is there

but has anyone done this job can tell me where to find it and what size it is?

Which are you looking for, the lock wires? Easy.

Pry up the driver's door sill a little bit. Remove the driver's kick panel----it's just held on with clips, plus one large plastic push-pin.

Lift the carpet and go to the thick wire bundle running toward the rear of the car. This area gets built up with sand and other crap due to the car's design; you might want to vaccuum it out while you're there.

The lock and unlock wires are the very thin pink / YELLOW and pink/green. Tests as ground when you operate the doorlocks with the switch.

Like the others said, it's going to be very unlikely you have a factory hoodpin.

But you also don't have to go underhood for the tach wire. Under the driver's dash, not too far from the parking brake, you'll see what looks like a huge black plastic handle, on the firewall.

Coming in next to that handle is a wire bundle; tach is tan / YELLOW.
