I installed a compustar 1WAM-S to a 96 Jetta Golf 3. It worked all fine with car remote starting, doors unlocking/locking and factory alarm disarming. After a couple of tries, the Starter under the hood started to smoke and pretty much gives.  All of my wires are connected correctly.  I am clueless into what could have caused this.  The only thing that I could think off is the starter is pretty old and it pretty much gaved at the right time. The starter is stock with 180,000KMS on it.  Has someone experience this?

It seems that your starter just went bad close to the time of the installation. The only other thing that could have caused it would have been the starter staying on to long. What was your start time set to and was it staying on longer then it was supose to?
