Alpine 9853.
I've used 2 different Pioneers before (in a different setup) and had 0 issues.

my pioneer premier deh-p860mp says it has 6.5v outputs @100ohm  and it sounds amazing with a directed 1100D and (2) alpine type R subs. (Amazing SQ)

I want to thank you for all your input...unfortunately, I will not be able to install the head unit at this time.  It seems that I will need to do some serious work to make an adapter of sorts for the head unit to fit in to make it look like a nice install, but...the face on the aftermarket unit doesn't come close to matching the slope of the dash for a flush install.  So I'm stuck with the factory head for a little while, until I get in the garage and work something out.

So, to fix my problem for now...I ordered a Phoenix Gold SLD44 signal line driver.  It has high level inputs, so I'll feed the signal from the factory sub to that and then tweek it accordingly.  Hopefully, this will clean up the signal going to my Xenon amp (claiming an 8 volt output using high level inputs) and less of a chance of frying any more subs.

I'll come back after I get the unit installed and let you know how things go.

Again, thanks for the education and guidance.

Mike
