tv and dvd power ?

i need a lil help here dont know if this is gona be right,

i have a 97 gmc sonoma and im about to install a tv and dvd in a custom console that im gona make the ? is, is it ok to get the 12v from the red wire under the stearing colum im guessing is one of the ignition wires ?(i cheked with the test light and its 12v constant ) will i have any problems hooking my tv and dvd to it ? or were is the best spot to wire this up from. thanks

 The best spot would ideally be the battery. But the 12 volt on the ignition harness is usually a sufficient yet 'dirtier' source of power.

so is that a yes ....lol its gona have a switch on it any ways to kill all power when not in use
