It should not be too complicated.

Are you familiar with wiring led's? i.e. voltage drop, ohm's law,  resistors etc.

Well if you are, you probably would not be posting this question, so I'll assume that you are not.  If you do a search on google there are plenty of places that teach it well.  I would try to explain it but they would do better.

Also you will probably not get very bright LEDs at radioshack, I buy mine at lsdiodes.com they have really bright ones, including the square ones.

Hope this helped.

Not too hard with the proper math (re: wiring, voltage, current) and the right equipment. Working on circuits that small is not the place for dad's 150 watt soldering iron
Not a bad project, but flawed from the beginning- the OEM trunk bulb is clear, not colored as he spec'd. Blue tint on a filament bulb drops the output by over 75%!

Why not just get an off-the-shelf LED Interior lamp? While it may not be the same shape and contour as your OEM lamp, it's certainly a lot less painful to install and get working. Check out the Hella EuroLED and EuroLED Touch lamps. The EuroLED Touch lamp actually has a standard white interior and red map light built into one lamp, and both can be dimmed with touch control, similar to the old touch-lamps everyone has seen.
