OEM wire harness damage

 I had installed a remote starter in a 2000 trailblazer it worked fine for 2 years . The owner started to have problems with not being able to start it with the key  at times . He took it to the dealer & was told it was due to the remote . The dealer said they had a lot of problems with remotes damageing the wire harness contacts . I removed the remote & he has not had the problem sense.  Has any one else seen this problem Lloyd

 Used a relay & a resistor  matching the resistance of the ignition switch, i did solder the conection to the resistor ,none of the others were solderedLloyd

You were probably having intermitent connection problems with the main power wires of the RS unit due to not having the wires soldered. Also, the resistors are temperature sensitive where they will deviate in value +/- 5 % in heat or cold. The new bypass modules available for today's Envoys/Trailblazer's are very effective and basically fool proof in design and installation.Jeff

That is exactly what I was going to say.  The bypass method you used is effective when done Properly.  I use the nerw bypass modules when available, but if someone is trying to save a buck I will use the relay and a trimpot method.  The trimpot offers higher accuracy since you can dial in the resistance exactly.  However, the bypass method was not likely your problem since the bypass is only active when the remote starter is triggered.  I would have to say like Jeff did, which is why I asked, it is likely because you did not solder your Ignition wires.  I solder every wire unless I run into a parking light wire I cant reach without breaking my neck, or an occasional brake wire if I cant reach it, which is rare.  I would go back and solder every wire.J Rilla

 I am not sure about why soldering the wires would help , none of the wires were were cut ,just connected the RS wires to them ,  Where do we get the bypass modules for the Trailblazers & are they something special?Lloyd
