Here's a place with an online calculator:

http://www.professionalplastics.com/cgi-bin/pp.pl?pgm=co_disp&func=displ&prrfnbr=85259&strfnbr=3&prname=ACRYLIC-SHEETS---EXTRUDED---Plexiglass

0.500" thick x 24" x 24" +/- 0.125" was $66.11

I have a friend who works at a plastics factory. I can get you acryllic plexiglass in thicknesses from 1/4" to 1" for probably less than you would find it anywhere else. The 3/4" and 1" thick stuff will stop bullets. So if you are looking for a material that will have little to no flex, this stuff works great. Let me know how much you are looking for and I may even be able to get the sizes cutout for you using their lazer cutting machine.

Another place to check out some serious plastic for a discount price are the Boeing surplus sales. They sell sheets of Tivar occasionally for about $750/per 4' x 8' sheet. I'm not sure how strong this stuff really is, but it is used for airplanes.. and normally costs a lot more than $750/sheet. The link to their surplus auction is:   http://surplussales.spiritaero.com/index.htm

It's located in Wichita, KS and is open every Friday.
