Brand new 2007 expedtion with the oem rear seat dvd.  I am intending on putting an pioneer avic z1 in but want to be able to hear the dvd sound over all the car speakers.  the manual states that if the original head unit is removed that the dvd will go into head phone only mode.  Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this something standard that can be worked around? I am not trying to bypass the avic but simply trying to get sound on the door speakers instead of simply using the headphones.  Thanks for any help.

This is definately doable you just want to pickup a set of spare RCA's, then splice them in to the OEM wiring accordingly. Then just plug them into an AUX A/V in on the avic. The audio from the DVD SHOULD be at the plug at the back of the radio, but once the OEM radio is gone and the system goes into "head phone only" mode, who knows if the feed is still there. You may also look into the Metra 70-5520AV. It would have the rca's ready for you, but you wouldn't want to hookup the power wires in that harness on an 07.

Just did something similar a few weeks ago.  When you remove the factory radio, you'll lose power to the video unit.  I believe that there is only one wire to power up...grn/blk{?).  I left it with only the headphones functioning.  I didn't have the time to test for audio, nor did the customer want to pay for the extra labor.  If you find the audio output, let us know.
