I just want to see which you guys recomend for the highest spl, im assuming bandpass, but I just want to double check, I see kicker uses the ported enclosure for its 15's but Im still thinking about bandpass for the greatest spl, however my only issue is the customer only has one working 15, the other went out and he plans to buy another one later, will it still sound good in a dual bandpass enclosure? and should it be bandpass or ported? thats the main question, thanks all.

In my opinion: SPL- Ported, SQ- Sealed, A little of both (which I recommend)- Bandpass. If the two 15's in the box are in separate chambers it will be fine alone. However if the two 15's share a single chamber the 15's would have to be recieving a mono signal for there not to be cancellation issues. If one speaker is used like this I wouldn't suggest pushing too much power to it as the parameters would not be correct and therefor the speaker might be damaged. What kind of vehicle does your customer have and what amp is he using to power the 15's, one for right now?

in a common chamber enclosure having one non-working woofer (passive radiator) will most always result in a decrease in output.

I'm not sure bandpass is the answer for SQ ...

I would build a ported box to kicker's spec.

Um, don't passive radiators typically claim a 3db increase in output? saleengt was asking if one woofer installed in a dual-bandpass box be okay. Prob not considering these typically are common chamber.

as far as i know a true passive radiator is only the cone and surround - kinda like what is in those new alpine boxes

Right, but a non-powered woofer acts the same as a passive radiator, only with the tiny added weight of the VC. The extra weight of the VC probably lowers the tuning freq. as it is more weight...

A non powered woofer is nothing near a true passive radiator...unless you wanna do some math and see what it is tuned at with the fake passive.

Also the weight of a voice coil nothing compared to adding weight to a passive radiator

Ported=SPL and Sealed=SQ...pretty general. A properly designed and built vented enclosure can have just as good if not better sound quality than a sealed box.

The unpowered woofer absolutely beats having an empty hole in a common chamber box which would have negative effects on the woofer being used. I agree that an unpowered woofer is not as rewarding as a true P.R, but since it has the same specs. as the powered one it acts just like a P.R - but at a much higher octave b/c it is much lighter than a true tuned P.R. I personally have had experience with Boston's G5 and GTR- with all weights removed- and must say that having an unpowered woofer in the same box as a powered one -I have done this many times to increased upper bass output- beats the hell out of just the one speaker. The only disadvantge of this is the lack of lower frequency reproduction-

I didn't mean that the VC adds up to 3 ounces like the available 'mass' on the Boston GTR tunable radiator but helps a little compared to, say, the GTR with no mass.

I would rather sugget simple ported enclosure for those CVR's...a proper bandpass for those would be pretty big and I'm not sure if you could design and build a proper one.

Two 15 inch CVRs are gonna get pretty loud in a properly built ported enclosure...no prefab crap please
