'91 Honda Accord SE experiencing a power antenna problem. The antenna was functioning properly until all of a sudden lost the ability to auto retract when trunk opens. Still extending when radio turned ON and retracting with radio turned OFF. Is there a sensor on the trunk lid latch or possibly a loose connection that I should check? PLEASE, need help, my OEM spoiler is hitting the antenna if I forget to turn off the radio first.

Check all of the wires at the power antenna. Make sure that they are all connected well and also check for a trigger wire at the the light in the trunk. Not sure if thats how its triggered but it sounds logical. Good luck. Brian

if the trunk light works.... you could always use it and a relay to interrupt the power antenna lead, kinda ghetto though

Thanks for the quick input guys! Finally reached a decent temp outside, here in NY, to check my antenna problem further. Notice that my problem is related with my trunk release mechanism, more than anything else. When I quickly pull my trunk release to open the trunk, I sense a motion of retracting from the antenna, but it will extend right back out. Only if I hold on to the trunk release, that the antenna will fully retract. If I pull it again, even when the trunk door already fully open, it will extend right out. My trunk release is located on the side floor, along with my gas tank door release. Is there a short somewhere along the line? How can I remedy this problem? that lever pulls on a cable that probably goes all the way to the trunk latch, look at that area for any wires that may be loose

You should check the connections at the trunk switch, it should be built into the latching mechanism. The spring in the switch may have just worn out and it may need to be replaced.

My mother has a '90 Accord EX, and I've worked on plenty of other Accords---I've never seen one that lowers the antenna when the trunk opens.

I'll take a guess that your car has a spoiler on the trunk, probably a dealer-installed one. Perhaps, because the spoiler sticks out, the installer had to wire up a relay to lower the antenna.

I'd pull back the carpeting on the left side, and carefully check out any wiring that doesn't look factory.

Thanks for the input. You're right, just learned that the car is equipped with a relay, but dealer installed. Apparently, all Honda Accord with factory installed OEM spoiler are equipped with such device to prevent the spoiler from hitting the antenna mast when opening the trunk. My relay went bad and the problem lies with Honda dealership, no diagram on their record or indication on the relay itself for any part number. They have to dig out all the relay available in stock for comparison. Lucky for me they found one. Just odd that nothing in their book dictates what it is or what it's for. Thanks again.
