So I've decided to go with a hardwire install for my iPod. I've looked heavily into iPod ready HU's but I don't like the fact that I have to use the headunit to control the iPod. I'd rather still use the iPod (faster).
Anyway, I've got a cable, that plugs into the CD Changer input on my JVC. For some reason it doesn't give me sound out of both speakers. The connection between the two is loose enough to where if I rotate the plug one way it gives me sound from one speaker, and if I rotate it the other way then visa versa. My question is this; is it my HU that has the problem? Or did I just get a bunk cable? It's an ebay cable :( So it may not be the best quality.
And while we're on the topic, are there any HU's with iPod connections that allow you to still use your iPod for selections? I'm trying not to diminish sound quality so I don't want to go FM transmitter, not sure about a modulator, that's still only FM quality right?

Any hu with aux-in will be able to work with your ipod.
All you need is a mini jack to rca stereo cable which you would plug into an ipod and rca inputs in hu.

Ok cool, so a head unit with an Aux input on the front should work too right? Say for instance this one;

Just a male/male 3 ring headphone jack right? Again I'd like to keep my control on my ipod, is that possible with a front Aux in?

For this unit you need a male/male headphone jack cable. Usualy the aux in is rca in rear of hu. With aux in you would have to use your ipod to play/stop/skip/etc. With ipod interface you can control the ipod from hu. All aux is, is an input to receive a signal to play through.
