I know the proper way is to use thick gauge wire to run from the battery straight to the amp, but I was lazy and didn't want to drill holes in my mercedes, so I tapped the postive to a 12v outlet, is it safe?   will it burn anything or fry anything?   will it last?  will the quality of the bass will be the same?  i have a 600 watt kenwood running a jbl 15" bandpass

Dude run the proper power and ground wires before it's too late and you mess around and fry up you mercedes. Run at least 4 gauge for both power and ground.

trust me, car fires aren't pretty.  I tried to go the "easy" way once and reuse pre-installed, substandard wires.  The result was a Ford Probe in flames due to a slice in the power wire and a inopportune short following immediately after.  The wire fused to the chassie, fried, and caught everything on fire that it was touching.  Always use the right gauge wires, verify that its integrity is sound, and run fuses at least at the battery and amp
