No kidding, seems like they buy any floundering business....
Really surprised they didn't snatch up Boston or Phoenix Gold when they were on the market.

Yes, Directed owns Polk.  They didn't but Boston Acoustics because they had already been bought by the D&M Holdings in Japan (Denon, Marantz, McIntosh, Snell, etc.) and Phoenix Gold was taken over by an investment banking company called PHX AP after they had merged with Audiosource and Carver to try and stave off bankruptcy.  Directed is owned by multi-billionaire Darrell Issa so they have really deep pockets.

Well I don't think it is a necessarily a bad thing as long as product quality doesnt go down. I'm not an expert but I would suggest they are better off there than with the like of say the manufactures of AudioBahn etc. Does anyone know how long ago this happened? has there been any noticable change in product?

You are right about that!  DEI purchased Polk in 2006 I believe so their latest offerings are under the new ownership.  I also think they are still independently managed and have their own engineering team, but only time will tell if this remains the case (just look at what happened to Precision Power after DEI took them over.  It took two years but now PPI is basically just a mid-level brand name of DEI and not a separate company at all.)
