I just picked up used a JL Audio 10w6v2 sub. I noticed after I received it in the mail that it has a rip/tear in the surround. The hole is about 1/4" x 1/8". It seems to go through the foam, but underneath seems to be some sort of tough woven fabric that is not damaged (when I push very gently the tip of a car key through, it is stopped by the fabric.) I'm collecting pieces for my system so have no ready way to listen to this sub and won't for weeks.

So, my questions are:

(1) Is this going to affect the sound?

(2) (How) can I fix it? Maybe a bit of rubber cement?

Yeah, if you did not know about that condition prior to the purchase, send it back. There are lots of morons on the internet who try to pawn used crap to unknowing people. See of you can get your money back.

well you bought it from ebay, i have boughten stuff from ebay but i will only buy from powersellers that have a high rating and excellent feedback. i mostly only buy from other sites that are reputable even off of ebay such as s and hifisoundconnection, believe those are the right ones.

From my experience, if you're going to do something then don't go the cheap route because it will NOT turn out the way you want. Go to a dealer and buy NEW stuff.
