i scanned the ground Q/A but couldn't find it, if i'm running like 300rms would it be cool for me to run 1 8 gauge power wire and an 8 gauge ground both directly to the battery

I would follow the same grounding techniques for ANY amplifier installation. The ground should be less than 18" long, ideally. #8 should be fine for 300W, though.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

well, no. but why not ground to chasis? it is easier and more cost efficient

No. That's a fallicy. You will have no more engine noise either way. Just follow the accepted correct grounding method, and you'll be fine. If your chassis ground (the one from the battery to the frame) in in good shape, you'll gain nothing with the additional expense and labor of running a separate ground all the way to the negative battery post.
