Hello everybody. New to the forum but some great information available here.

I am installing a system into my extended cab Silverado 1500 and I am now choosing subs. I have decided on Kicker solobarics. My boxes will be custom built and sealed to around 1 cu. ft. +/_ a few hundreths. Will the 06 L7 or L5 be the best choice? I am planning on running a Hifonics 1606 for the subs, but I may get a smaller amp if it is recommended. I am pretty sure the amp will power the L7's but I am not to sure about the L5's(too much) if I decide to go that route. If I decide on the L5's, I may get a 1206 Hifonics or something similiar.

But back to the main topic. Would the L5's be just as good as the L7's? Or would the L7's be louder? I mainly am looking for SPL (I know a ported box would be better, but I have to work with what I have). Will the L5's be louder than the L7's with the low amount of power I am running to them?

And yes, I have a 150 amp alternator and have upgrader my big three to 1/0 gauge.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Difference??? L7s can handle more power
Jeff will most likely say to use the L5 get louder with less power than the L7s until the L5's reach their thermal limits.
But I would say get the L7's just in case you feel a little happy with the gain

right on, the L5's would be a better choice with the space, your still on the small side anyways....have you considered a single L7 12 with a larger enclosure.   Max of what you have 2+ cu ft     I honestally this one sub in 2 plus cuft would be beter then 2 in 1 cu each

Yes I had considered one twelve inch L7. The only problem I had was when I built the box I would have to glass around the hump that runs through the center of the cab due to the driveshaft, etc. I also was going to port the single L7 if I went that way, but didn't know if having the port on one side of the cab and the sub on the other would matter. Has anybody tried this and do you think it may work? Also would one single ported L7 with around a 2- 2.5 cu. ft. of airspace be louder than two sealed L5's with max RMS to both? Thanks for all of your help.

I think it would be close to as loud, but the sound you recieve will be much more acoustically pleaseing.    Port and sub on oppisite sides would be fine

Ok thanks. I measured my cab and found that I can squeeze out 1.5 cu. ft apiece for each sub, so I think I am going to go with the L5's. Which year model would be the best, 05 or the 06 model? Thank you very much for all your help.

And also would a Hifonics Brutus 1206 be a good choice of an amp for these subs. It is supposed to be around 1200 rms at 1 ohm, or should I go with with the 1606,  so I can be sure that I am getting the full RMS for the speakers. Thanks.

Sorry for so many posts in a row but I am throwing ideas around. I could also get to L5 10's for the subs. Possibly even L7's. Would these sound better and louder than the 12? The small airspace that I have would better suit them it seems, what do you think?

I would go either l7 10's or L5 12's     I would lean toward the L7 10's with that room.      go with the bigger amp

Ok I think that I am going to go with the L7 10's and build a 1.25 cu. ft. ported enclosure, which is the smallest that Kicker recommends. Thanks for all of your help Jeff, you helped me out alot and I know that the info was coming from somebody that knows.
